IT'S MARIE BEER'S TIME
It's been a good couple of weeks for
Boulder singer-songwriter Marie Beer. First, the Women From
Mars disc, on which her song "House of Love" appears, had
its release party Thursday night at the Fox, and her solo
album, Cherry Tree, will have its release party next Thursday
night at the Boulder Theater. Beer's hook is that she attended
Interlochen Arts Academy with Jewel Kilcher, with whom she
wrote songs and performed. Boulder producer Wil Masisak, who
helped on the Women From Mars project and has worked with
Dan Bern, manned the board for Cherry Tree, a quiet, introspective
disc about love, loneliness, and Allen Ginsberg that recalls
Jewel or, at times, Alanis Morissette.
Beer is opening for Celtic band Milladoiro,
a seven-member group from Spain that combines accordion, strings,
harp, woodwinds and percussion to create music that mixes
modern rhythms with sounds form he Middle Ages. Tickets for
the 7:30 p.m. show are $18.50 general, $9.50 for students;
